View Full Version : Dy-950

So I need a smaller cargo ship to be used with the UESN ships (convoy stuff). Over in the ASDB future projects area is a class chart of Dyson-Yoyodyne ships. The DY-950 is the right era so I have built it (well it is almost done).

From the angles I can see here, the part where the nozzle connects to the body looks a bit thin.
What is that blocky structure on the bottom for? Looks like it was added as an afterthought because it isn't smooth like the rest of the ship.

You'll have to ask the designer :D But... the DY series (well the one cannon one) has that boxed cargo section that is slung under it. So you have a swoopy sub body and this boxy add-on, go figure. The whole thing forward of the main engine sphere is supposed to be cargo so the connecting section is not needed to be too robust. Anyway - it is a cargo ship and not a explorer / combat capable ship. Large structural support would not be required.

Oh yeah, here is the class chart (http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/asdb/dy-chart.jpg) I am referencing.

Hey! I've been working with the designers on a militarized version of this (and their other early ships) for the Starfleet Museum. I planned to put twin railguns on the top at 2 and 10 o'clock and a black military deflector in the front. I think that blocky thing on the belly should be more like the cargo modules on the Botany Bay, meaning interchangable with blunt wedge-shaped front cross sections. They told me that the engine was just stolen from the Phoenix warp testbed and needed to be refined.

I'm not talking about the engine section to cargo section connector. What looks thin is where the engine nozzle connects to the engine section of the craft. Last pic, bottom right.
Masao, that's what they told you, eh? And you believed them?

O - Know I get it :D. That's because the engine is not done. I just did the first part of the nozzel.

Hmm, I think I see my next project...the DY-1200.
I might try the 430 just for kicks.

Sure, I believe 'em. Everything on the internet is true, isn't it?
I was actually trying to redraw the engine bell, but was having a hell of a time with the turkey feathers. After they told me they used modified parts off Phoenix, I downloaded schematics from EAS.
Thomas: I'll email you slightly larger views of the ship I was sent. I also have my 3-views, which I have to dig around for. I you have any question for the designer, he's "Reverend" <firstname.lastname@example.org>
