View Full Version : Bumping Old Threads ~ Read Before Posting

This is mainly for new members. If you're here for the first time and you're looking through the forums to comment on some work or to get your 5 posts necessary to download, please look at the date on the first post in the thread and try and find the last updated post by the original author. If the original author hasn't updated the thread in the last 6 months, please don't ask for an update or even comment on the thread. It's probably dead, but the forum doesn't automatically kill old threads, so it's still there. So, please don't post because you'll just bump it and encourage others to post in it. Thank you.

On a related note, I've recovered the image from that other thread (http://web.archive.org/web/20070204214425/http://www.3dgladiators.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20943). there's very little that ever gets deleted from the internet, at least for good. yeah, I'm bored

It doesn't matter. That guy hasn't updated that thread since 2004. People have just been periodically bumping it for the past 3 years, mostly people who were doing the 5 post and dart trick. It does nothing to enhance the forums if people bump old threads. It just creates more clutter in front of threads that are active and pushes them down the list.

OK, people, lets not get crazy here. As long as it's on the front page, we don't need to keep bumping it (that's why I made it sticky.) I only bumped it the other day because people were necro-posting (one of my pet peeves) again.

"Bump" We have to remind new members that when looking to post in the many threads the 3DG hosts, Please look for more recent postings .. nothing over 6. months if the have been quiet . they are possibly dead ..
At the moment we have a contest going in "On The Horizon" Thread .. for Cargo ships designs . have a look there ..

Yes, good reminder, Ger. Mostly people who are wanting to post 5 times to download don't care which threads they post in, and that's perfectly fine with me. But, if that's all you're after, the contest is current and an easy place to do that, you can just pick 5 contest threads at random or go down the list until you have 5. There's a lot of great modeling going on over there, so it shouldn't be hard to come up with 5 comments, even if it's just stuff like "looking great." :) (Besides, I'm not saying they're necessarily going to release them, that's up to the individuals, but some of that stuff might eventually wind up in the downloads section, so you might want to see what's there.)

I should be clear about something, and it was Warrior who pointed this out. Mostly, this thread is referring to WIPs and discussions that has long been dropped. (I know, I wasn't specific.) Completed art is always something that can be commented on, even after a big lag, as long as the images are still valid, as Warrior pointed out. Now, when they post in a 3-year-dead thread to say the image links don't work, I want to pull more of my hair out. But art threads where people uploaded to the site or to Photobucket/ImageShack, etc. where the images can be seen are always open to someone commenting.
