Is it possible in Max 3.1 to have an object float over waves. I've created a sea surface using a plane and would like to have a ship react to the waves.
Anyone have any ideas?

you could use the Ripple Modifier, change the gizmo's position to change the source of the ripples. They'll only be circular though, that's anoying, but maybe you can apply a noise mod to distort them a bit on the x and y axis'.

You could also use multiple Ripple emmitters with a low amplitude to give the waves a bit of the ramdomness that ocean waves have.

No, what I'm trying to do is have the ship react to the waves. So as a wave passes the ship, the shop rolls with it.
The path tutorial gives me an idea though. I'm not sure that it'll work, but it won't hurt to try.
