Default Rommie Cataract Class

Here's one of Masao's I've never gotten to (well there are a lot I've never done ). This is just the basic ship as I have some ideas for detailing it. I won't be doing an ILM version so keep the crits under control .

BTW - any input on the bussards would be helpful. No matter how I approach it the result is wrong. I cannot get the shape to match when compared to the top-front-side views. The resulting object is too large on one side and looks goofy.

may I make a suggestion?

I personally rarely use cylinders. I rather make this rectangular spline (interpolation set to adaptive) and lathe it. Then I reuse the shape over and over for cylindrical objects. It gives you that ability to instead of having a mathematically perfect cylinder, you can bow the side out a little.

visually it really helps. And you can do alot of shape changing really easily by adding a edit spline modifier to the spline before you lathe.

Also there is a handy trickk to make the center align up, but you can probably do that.

I will have to take a look at the design at the museum site before commenting. Looks ok so far.

Here is an update. I've added some details to the boom / pod and the 'turtle-deck' aft of the bridge deck. I also added bussards but they are a compromise to the drawing. They work in 2 views just not all three as originally drawn.

Thomas, thanks for the tip - I often use lathed splines for various things but generally have the cross section in mind before hand. I'll have to try that for cylinders. This mesh is mostly spheres and a then various lofted splines (or shape merged splines).
