Default Ideas for Shaders

ok here's a few shaders I could use.....

one in the transperency / reflectance shaders to make small white dots in a grid pattern... maybe with an option to make some black at random. to be used for making ships windows at a distance.

one for making diagonal stripes on a face / model eg - warning strips

one for making a fuzzy bright glow you can taper and fade out.. for ships drives...

anyone got any more?

Those sound very useful. Getting warp engine glows is very challenging.

Can a shader be designed that emits light?

well, there's a spot shader right now...and the diagonal one comes with TS 4 and 5. and there is a glow shader in TS5...oh, and to taper it and fade out...you can just make a cone.

LOL! There you go, what do you need any new shaders for with those options available

Consider the ideas filed for future reference. Interestingly, I've got an idea for a new approach to glows that might be useful for engine and warp nacelle type glows. It's part-way through development, and may not prove to be practical or useful yet, but then again, it just might Unfortunately, if it does work, it will be cropping up in a commercial collection rather than as a freebie (cut-down free version might be possible though).

Unfortunately, a tS shader can't be made to emit light, owing to the way the Lightworks render engine works. Not really a problem though - tS lightsources can be used for the emitted light, and the glow effect itself would still need to be handled by some transparency option even if the object did emit light.

I'll let you know of any developments!

A cone! Why didn't I think of that?

<slap>my head</slap>

Good luck to your developments, Tom. Keep us posted.
